23 August 10
Leeds-based law firm Clarion is building on the success of its established criminal and fraud services practice by launching a separate division known as Clarion Advocates which will comprise its growing Leeds practice as well as new office in Liverpool which will be the firm’s first base outside Yorkshire.

Clarion Advocates comprises a team of seven criminal lawyers in Leeds, as well as creating five additional jobs at the new Liverpool office which will be headed by one of the city’s best known criminal lawyers, Tony Murphy.  The division will be led by Rob Rode who is responsible for establishing Clarion’s successful Yorkshire based criminal practice.

Clarion Advocates offers a full range of business crime and regulatory services, defending prosecutions and investigations of all kinds at any stage, and also advising businesses about regulatory compliance to avoid prosecutions.

“Our Leeds criminal practice headed by the renowned Rob Rode has gone from strength to strength handling numerous high profile and complex cases all over the country.  It has not only established itself as one of the leading criminal practices in the region, but is also ranked in the top four nationwide,” commented Mark Burns, managing partner of Clarion.  “The launch of this specialist division will enable us to build on our success, further expanding the team both here and at our first office outside Yorkshire.

“In addition, the creation of Clarion Advocates will allow us to work with the Legal Services Commission, modernising the delivery of criminal legal services, creating a national practice.”

Rob Rode, partner at Clarion, comments, “This is an exciting development for Clarion’s criminal practice.  Our strong track record, together with an experienced and growing team of specialist criminal lawyers, will enable us to continue to offer cost-effective, expert criminal advice in Yorkshire and also now in the North West too.”

Clarion offers nine specialist service areas consisting of Clarion Advocates (formerly business crime and regulatory); corporate and commercial; corporate recovery; private client; employment; property; dispute resolution; family and debt recovery.  The firm has grown to 65 fee earners including 17 partners.
