A timely reminder this morning that we need to be careful which babies get thrown away with the bath water as the RDA starts to spin towards the plughole. The economic forecasting department at Yorkshire Forward might not be everyone’s first choice in the lifeboat (to mix metaphors slightly) but as plans are made for provision of schools, transport, healthcare, skills development and all the long term constituents of a strong society and economy, we need this kind of intelligence. Now whether the expertise is held on a Yorkshire wide basis or focussed, in our case, on Leeds City Region, or even as some would believe at Local Authority level (parish councils anyone?) is a point of contention. The seminar I went to this morning showed that the resource exists – let’s not re-invent it.
