Wishing all a very happy new year, and what better new year’s gift than a sporting victory over the good folk of Manchester! As mentioned before on these pages, I’d view a successful football team as a valuable PR tool for business and I’m sure the name awareness of “Leeds” will have lifted a couple of notches after yesterday’s game was watched in Asia and South America. And on a personal level the best thing is they won’t have the chance for revenge for at least a season and a half!
Here at Financial Leeds we are starting 2010 with our busiest ever quarterly program culminating in joining with Marketing Leeds at the “Leeds in Barcelona” event in March. This type of cross sector, cultural and civic event is a great opportunity to do more of the profile raising of the Leeds name as we establish the city region as an international location. Putting it alongside the football victory it’s another area where we are competing on equal terms with Manchester as one of the UK’s leading cities - something we need to do as much as possible in the “teenies” if we want to emulate Manchester’s “noughties” successes both on and off the football field.
