We hosted 2 city region events this week, one in Wakefield and one in Huddersfield (at the magnificent Galpharm Stadium).
Lots of education required on the concept of the Leeds city region – understandable as not much has been said publicly yet. The officials are waiting for the final OK’s from various Ministeries before filling in the gaps but worth looking at the web site and their conference in November.
Nearly everybody was open to the benefits of the bigger market and proposition across the region but you can’t have a meeting like that without talking transport. On this occasion I was singing the praises of Leeds City Centre being less than 5 minutes from the motorway network – small comfort between 7 and 9 in the morning I know – when it can take an hour to get to the end of the motorway. However, for customers and clients driving in during the rest of the time it is almost unique in the UK (Newcastle being the honourable exception).
