Another trip to Manchester – this time to speak at a Conservative Party side meeting at the Conference. No party alignment here –just helping the debate on the Leeds city region to an audience largely comprising of Conservative prospective parliamentary candidates who will be campaigning in the region next year.
After a ‘tell’ session the debate got stuck on the future of the RDAs, and whether the Leeds city region is a vehicle to take on some of the RDAs functions. The popular view is that a Con government would demolish RDAs but whilst Leeds and other core cities are probably big enough to take on some of the role it’s not clear where the rest of it would go. Why it is necessary to break up something which performs a vital function (which will still need performing) is a challenge – no doubt it would take time and cost to recreate something that has already does a great job in our region. No doubt the South East centric thinking is using the performance of southern RDA’s as a proxy for all.
This one will run and run…
Meanwhile – exposure again to the two sides of Manchester – great city centre conference facility but the most miserable of weather!
