London today to meet up with a couple of our most senior London network of ex Leeds people – from Deloitte and Eversheds, and to hear from an inward investment expert on where Leeds sits in their analysis when advising big business on strategic location.
The good news is that we are almost always shortlisted. The bad news is that, along with Birmingham and Glasgow, we don’t often win. That’s because people ignore the miserable weather issues (are they told???) and go to Manchester. We are working on this…
Later in London and a very strange lunch engagement. The Lord Mayor of the City of London (not BoJo - he is just “Mayor”) promotes financial, business and professional services internationally for the whole of the UK – not just the City. Prior to his term he will usually have served as Sheriff of the City, and presided over the High Courts at the Old Bailey. So – to develop our relationship with a potential future Lord Mayor I went for lunch – with the Sheriff, 3 guests and 12 high court judges taking an hour’s break from presiding over tales of murder and terrorism.
When I asked a ludship how often they do this sort of thing the answer was “Everyday, my dear boy”. More Spotted Dick anyone?…
